Training package to help teams understand what HSB is, how it happens and how to respond

Improve your team’s understanding of HSB and increase their confidence in identifying and responding to incidents.

This course, delivered by experts from the NSPCC, helps teams better understand possible pathways to behaviour and stages of abuse as well as the complex issues related to HSB.

Professionals will be better equipped to work within the young person’s network, know when to work with families and carers, and provide appropriate support.

What will teams learn?

The training uses case studies, small group activities and interactive tools to help professionals respond appropriately to instances of HSB.

It covers:

  • developing an understanding of HSB
the possible impact of working with children who have presented HSB
  • the risks and needs of children
what is and isn’t OK sexual behaviour
  • the underlying reasons why a child might present HSB
  • the impact for the family
  • how to respond to HSB
  • safety planning when HSB is a factor.

Benefits of the course

  • Developed by experts in responding to harmful sexual behaviour
  • Personalised certificate of achievement and completion
  • If purchased as a region/team, we can provide pre- and post- training implementation support
  • Options for train the trainer model to locally train professionals across agencies

This training is designed for teams working in children’s services or multi-agency partnerships who may come into contact with children affected by or displaying HSB.

However, everyone who works with children and families has a role to play in identifying concerns, sharing information and taking immediate action so children receive the right help at the right time. This course may also be of interest to teachers, healthcare workers or teams in other sectors.

The course can also be delivered as a two-day train the trainer model so professionals become licenced to deliver the training to colleagues and relevant multi-agency staff to increase awareness more widely.
