How safe are our children? conference 2018

Last updated: 02 Apr 2019

Our annual How safe are our children? conference provides child protection professionals with the opportunity to debate, question and share insights about the latest strategies, policies and programmes to prevent child abuse and protect children.

2018 - Growing up online

In 2018 our conference was dedicated to protecting children online. Over 600 delegates attended two days of speeches, discussions, sessions and networking. Three were representatives across all areas of child protection including social work, education, health and criminal justice.

Keynote speeches at the 2018 conference included:

  • Matt Hancock MP (Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport) who gave an update on the government's plans to hold social media companies to account
  • David Austin (Chief Executive of the British Board of Film Classification) who spoke about the need to classify online content as well as traditional offline content.

The event also saw the launch of our How safe are our children? 2018 report, the most comprehensive overview of child protection in the UK.
