New resources to embed healthy relationships across your whole school

Last updated: 22 Apr 2024 Topics: News

We've launched a Whole-School Approach Framework for sex and relationships education as part of our Talk Relationships service

Sex and relationships education plays a vital role in preventing abuse, but it's not just about what is taught in the classroom. Promoting healthy relationships is most effective when set within the wider context of a whole-school approach.

In partnership with Life Lessons, we've created a framework that will support school leaders to implement a comprehensive whole-school approach to sex and relationships.

Schools can download the resources for free by completing a short form.

The new suite of resources consists of:

  • the evidence base for a whole-school approach
  • an implementation guide with step-by-step advice
  • the framework setting out eight components to a whole-school approach, each with benchmarks and examples
  • a snapshot tool for self-assessing your sex and relationships provision
  • an editable action plan template.

We are committed to ensuring every secondary school-aged young person can learn about sex and relationships in a safe education environment that recognises, responds to, and prevents abuse.

Talk Relationships background

Talk Relationships launched in September 2022 with the aim of supporting secondary school teachers to deliver sex and relationships education.

It includes an elearning course for teachers and a series of age-appropriate lesson plans and classroom resources developed with the PSHE Association.

In 2023, we released a new elearning course to support leadership teams to take a whole-school approach to sex and relationships education, we provided lesson plans in Welsh and released a collection of new lesson plans for pupils with additional needs and disabilities (SEND/ASN/ALN).

Now we’re launching the Whole-School Approach (WSA) Framework which schools can access for free by completing a short form.
