About the library

Access the largest collection of child protection resources in the UK

The NSPCC Library is the only UK library that specialises in published materials on safeguarding, child protection, safeguarding, child abuse and related subjects.

We hold over 45,000 resources including inquiry reports and case reviews, training resources and text books, international journals and grey literature.

Our catalogue provides free direct access to many online publications, including case reviews and research reports. Books, journals and other printed materials are available for reference in our library in London – email learning@nspcc.org.uk to book a visit. Alternatively, you should be able to find most publications through your public or academic library, bookshops or journal publishers.

Social Policy and Practice

Social Policy and Practice database

Social Policy and Practice (SPP) is a comprehensive subscription-based database of evidence and research in health and social care. It provides access to a growing collection of hundreds of thousands of abstracts from journals, books and research reports on topics including children and young people, vulnerable adults, social work, special educational needs and disabilities, crime and youth justice, and health and wellbeing.

The NSPCC is part of a UK consortium of organisations who work together to create Social Policy and Practice. Through one database we bring together the NSPCC Library catalogue with information from four of the UK’s leading collections of health and social care resources:

  • AgeInfo - Centre for Policy on Ageing
  • Planex - IDOX Information Service
  • Social Care Online - Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE)
  • Child Data - National Children’s Bureau (NCB) (to January 2018)
  • Greater London Authority (GLA) – archive material only
