Celebrating 40 years of Childline

Last updated: 23 Jun 2026 Type: News

This summer we’re asking you, and the children and young people you work with, to help us celebrate an incredible milestone: 40 years of Childline.

Children and young people can get creative and help us decorate our Childline bases with bunting, take the Childline challenge on our website or design their own Childline mascot poster to keep.

Plus, they’ll learn more about this vital service and how to get support if they need it.

Get started with the Childline 40 activity pack

Everything you need is in our pack for professionals, including a slide deck and guidance documents to help you run the activities.

Suitable for all settings, including schools, summer groups and clubs outside of school, the pack helps children and young people explore Childline in a creative way. They can:

  • take the Childline challenge: an online scavenger hunt to explore the Childline website
  • design posters for your display boards: invent a Childline mascot to display in your setting
  • create bunting to display in our bases: use our template to make bunting, fill in the contact form and send your decorations to us. We’ll use them to decorate our Childline bases and celebrate 40 years of Childline

There are two different packs to help you tailor the session to your age group both available in English and Welsh.

Childline is here for children, whatever they need

A lot has changed in 40 years, but one thing has remained constant: Childline is here for children and young people, whatever they need us for.

Anyone aged under 19 can contact Childline for support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

They can contact a counsellor by 1-2-1 chat, email or call free on 0800 1111. Young people can also find information and advice on Childline’s website.
