Suitable for designated safeguarding leads (DSLs) and named officers, as well as childminders, this course will ensure you meet and build on the DSL training requirements in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework.

What will I learn?

In this two-day course you’ll cover:

  • safeguarding roles and responsibilities
  • developing and implementing policies and procedures
  • creating and maintaining an effective safeguarding culture
  • responding to and managing concerns and allegations
  • when and how to make referrals, including liaising with other agencies
  • maintaining accurate records and chronologies
  • the 5 stages of safer recruitment
  • online safety in the early years.

Reflective activities, group discussions, scenarios, and individual and paired tasks will help consolidate your learning.

This course is for anyone who leads or manages safeguarding in an early years setting in England. This includes DSLs and childminders, nursery settings and school-based providers.

The training meets and builds on the DSL training requirements in Annex C of the EYFS.
