An online course for safeguarding children and young people in sport

Do you work or volunteer in sport and want to better understand your role and responsibilities in protecting the children and young people you come into contact with?

As the UK’s experts on safeguarding, the NSPCC’s Child protection in sport elearning course will help you to gain an understanding of your role in protecting children from abuse or harm and what to do when concerns arise.

What will I learn?

This introductory course includes four modules with each module taking around 30-45 minutes to complete, followed by a set of questions. You’ll be given a full explanation of the correct and incorrect answers to help you develop your understanding and confidence.

By the end of the course you’ll be able to:

  • identify what is meant by child abuse and safeguarding
  • identify the relevant legislation and guidance that provides the framework for safeguarding and protecting young people

Who is this course for?

Everyone who works with children or has regular contact with children has a responsibility for keeping them safe.

So whether you work or volunteer in sport as an individual or as part of a club or organisation, are a community sport development officer, a community leisure officer or work in children’s tourism or leisure, this Child protection in sport online course will help you to gain an understanding of your role in protecting children.

For those who have regular contact with children such as sports coaches this can provide a useful precursor for more advanced face-to-face safeguarding training that is appropriate, and in some cases mandatory, for your role.

Why take your training with the NSPCC?

“An excellent and clearly structured course on a critical subject. It has made me aware of the importance of being alert to potential issues.... far beyond just my coaching responsibilities.”

“Thanks for a great course. I have done a lot of elearning courses and this is the best one. Great balance between activities, reflection and content and between reading and video.”
