In partnership with Vodafone, we have put together a series of webinars from safeguarding experts based on the voices of children and young people. 

Starting in September, this eight-part series will cover essential topics that young people face today, including online grooming, scams and exposure to harmful content.

This introductory webinar will explore the dynamic world of online safety from the perspective of children and young people. The webinar shares the views of young people on what they want to know about and what they wish you knew more about. It covers how children and young people are using the internet, the benefits and risks of being online, youth views on online safety education, how to involve parents and carers and how professionals working with children can act to support young people and children online.

We look at the online harms children and young people face in their daily lives. With real-life case studies and first-hand perspectives, gain a deep understanding of legal and illegal harms such as self-generated imagery, harassment and abuse, and explicit material. Learn from safeguarding experts about the measures in place to report concerns and discover how to adopt an empathetic approach to safeguarding in the digital age.

Part one of a two-part series will focus on what online grooming is, how technology is used in grooming and what are the signs and indicators to be aware of. Providing an overview of sextortion ahead of part two, we’ll explore the concept of catfishing and the preventative measures to protect children and young people from online grooming

Part two of our series examining online grooming and sextortion will provide vital information on these critical issues. You will learn what sextortion is, how it happens and how it can occur within relationships. By understanding the impact of sextortion with real-life case studies, you will learn effective responses and preventative measures to protect young people.

We investigate what social media is, how children and young people use it, the benefits and risks associated with it, the role of algorithms and the concepts of misinformation, disinformation and fake news. Additionally, we will explore what education professionals can do to help young people navigate social media safely. Featuring case studies and firsthand perspectives from children and young people, this webinar aims to equip education professionals with the knowledge and tools to support young people in safely navigating social media.

This webinar will examine the critical topic of online radicalisation, providing you with the knowledge and tools to safeguard the children and young people in your care. You will gain a clear understanding of radicalisation and its impact on individuals and communities, explore how the internet and social media platforms are used to radicalise individuals, and learn to identify the early warning signs of radicalisation in children and young people. By discovering the practical steps to prevent radicalisation, you can support those at risk whilst understanding the intersection between radicalisation, misogyny and violence against women and girls.

This webinar will delve into the concept of digital footprints. We'll consider the role social media plays and how we can effectively support children and young people in managing their digital footprint. Covering the principles of digital citizenship alongside the implications of digital footprints, you will understand the importance of parental involvement in managing online presence.
